Submitted By Anna Styers-Barnett

The Worship Team decided to move to theme-based worship for fall 2015. The themes for upcoming months are Dream in November (in conjunction with Spirit & Place), and Gifts for December. We also became members of Soul Matters Sharing Circle to take advantage of their worship resources. Services are planned through the end of December 2015. Stephanie Robertson is stepping down from the Worship Team due to increased responsibilities at work. Current members include: Anna Styers-Barnett, Ann Wells, Rexene Lane, and Susan Burns.

Central Indiana UU Mission Team Update – October 2015

Submitted By Marty Miles

The Central IN UU Mission Team has not met as a group recently. But team members and others from Sacred Path have been very involved in planning and implementing related events such as the joint UU presence at the IndyPride parade and the Festival of Faiths. The event with Emerson Ave. Baptist that Lori facilitated was also directly in line with the team’s mission.

I think we need to revisit the work we did at the retreat in January, and particularly these next steps we identified:

Important Next Steps

  • Identify Service Sunday projects that could address some of the other areas we feel called to serve (and take the burden off the Worship team to do all the set-up) – WHO?
  • Identify more projects that could be multi-generational
  • Identify a process to further discern what an issue might be for eventual Sacred Path focus, and how we might better understand its systemic aspects – CSC/Marty/?
  • Identify areas of need (pastoral / administrative) – and inventory skills/interests of Sacred Path community – WHO?
  • Review committee membership – where is “churn” and leadership development needed? – CSC?
  • Move on immediate next steps related to Central IN UU work, e.g., formalizing some CINUU structure? Lori / Marty / ?

I would also add to that some serious conversation about whether and how we might get involved in some specific initiatives of IndyCAN or the “Black lives matter” movement.

Ceremony of Commitment

“Love, above all things, is a commitment to your choice.” ―Rob Liano

As we enter our fourth year together, Sacred Path held a ritual of commitment over Labor Day weekend. Sitting in a circle, we began by naming and honoring our ancestors: those who helped bring us to this place and time.

Sacred Path Church is Now a Covenanting Community of the UUA

Along with other emerging ministries, Sacred Path to be welcomed at the 2015 UUA General Assembly as a covenanting community

In January 2012, UUA President Rev. Peter Morales introduced his “Congregations and Beyond” vision in a white paper (PDF) boldly declaring that, in order for Unitarian Universalism to remain vitally relevant in today’s religious environment, we need to expand the definition of what a “congregation” looks like. Discussion groups and Facebook groups were formed. Blog posts written. Debates ensued across UU-land on the implications of this bold vision.

Community Stewardship Circle – March 2015

Submitted By Lori Sirtosky

At last night’s Community Stewardship Circle (CSC) meeting, we talked a bit about Sacred Path’s “place” in the broader context. We touched back to the sermon Pam Blevins Hinkle delivered celebrating water and her invitation to ponder Sacred Path’s place. We started to conceptualize how we might exist in the “holy places”, the confluences, the places where one stream of water comes together intermingling with other streams (like the braided river).
